I'll take some sun, mixed with allergies and albuterol

The sun is here to stay, and we are pretty happy about it.

We don't have the pool open yet, but we make do.

We noticed that Kamdyn was not enjoying her outside time like the rest of us.  A few minutes basking in the sun left her eyes red, puffed up, and watery and a rash on her stomach.  I don't like giving medicine, but we are giving her Claritin.  It seems to be helping so far........................

...................as you can see.

The other morning, Kamdyn was wheezing and having some trouble breathing.  Pretty much over night, she developed croup once again.  The doctor prescribed her albuterol to help with the wheezing.  That night, we used the albuterol.  Shortly after the treatment, she was having tremors and crying.  The medicine made her restless, uncomfortable, and hard to go to sleep.  It took her forever to fall asleep that night.  The doctor had warned me that it might make her hyper, but the side effects include, nervousness, tremors, headache, difficulty sleeping, and nausea.  It can also cause rapid heart rate, which we believe it did in her.

If she cannot breathe, we have to give her something, but we don't want to give her something that is not good for her heart, since she has a heart defect.  The nurse at her cardiologist's office suggested we ask the doctor for something else instead.  You know something that will not make her feel like she took speed.  The doctor called in a prescription for xopenex instead.  Thankfully, after one dose of the albuterol, her croup symptoms cleared up, and we have not had to give her any other nebulizer treatments.

Who cares about allergies and albuterol, we have the sun!

  1. thanks for posting this. We have noticed that our your est often gets red eyes when we've been outside for a while. We have never felt like we needed to try anything but its nice to know what to look for. With two other children with asthma abuteral and the nebulizer have been frequently used at our house.
