NDSC or bust

We're going to the NDSC convention again, but this time, we're taking the whole family.  This Pennsyltucky family of 6 will be loading up the swagger wagon and heading off to the big city, Washington DC for the NDSC's annual convention.

I thought I would just wing it like I did last year, but bringing the whole family has brought on an itch for a bit more planning.  I may change my mind, as I often do, but here's the sessions I'm looking into:

Friday 3:30-5:00
The kids will be in Kid's Camp, so I think I'm going to hit the Blogger sharing session

Saturday 8:30-10:00
See and Learn: Early Language Programs
Possibly, Genetic Testing in the Perinatal Period
If you're up in the air about this time slot, we went to Brian Skotko's Sibling Issues session last year, and it was great.

Saturday 10:30-12:00
I'm pretty set on Starting out with Language and Speech: Birth to Preschool with Libby Kumin, because she is the Yoda of all things speech.  And this padawan needs the key to the force in this area.

But the session with Dr. Capone from Kennedy Krieger, Maximizing Academic Potential: Treating Medical & Behavioral Conditions Associated with Ds, looks like a winner too.

Saturday 3:30-5:00
Most likely Ei, Ei, Oh! Giving Your Little Ones a Great Start
The only other one I'm interested in at the time is the Ds Research Initiatives at National Institute of Health, but I might gain something more practical and day to day related at the other.

Sunday 8:30-10:00
Teaching Children with Ds to Read.  Never too early to prepare for that.
Also Apps, Web 2.0, Oh My!  because I love good app suggestions.

Sunday 10:30-12:00
Managing Behavior in Children with Ds:  How Understanding Leads to Intervention.
Achieving the Goal: A Monumentally Rewarding Life with a self advocate and his mother.

I'll take Brad's opinion into consideration for Sunday, because he'll be with me.  On Saturday, he's flying solo with the kids.

I love Washington DC, and I'm excited to take the kids there.  We'll be close to the zoo, so I'm sure a trip there will happen.  I would also like to go to the National Archives and see some of the monuments, because it will go along with what Madison learns in Social Studies this year.

If you see Kamdyn, the way to win her over is to give her knuckles and blow it up.  Hope to see you there.

  1. Libby Kumin is amazing. She spoke at one of our DSA's annual meetings when Sammi was an infant, and I was completely inspired. Definitely Yoda!!

See you in the Blogger's session, and maybe in the halls. LOL :-)
