Starry counting:
* Use index cards. Put star stickers (or any stickers) on one card and the corresponding number on the other.
*Have the child match the number of stars to the numeral
Alien counting
* I got the alien pattern from Mailbox magazine, but you could pretty easily draw your own.
*Write the numbers on the alien and laminate or laminate them and use a dry erase marker to write the numbers. If you laminate first and use dry erase, you can reuse the same couple of aliens.
* Have the student place the correct number of stars/stickers that matches the number on the alien.
* Use star stickers or these re-usable sticky shapes (that I got from Stapes with a coupon).
Swamp creature counting
* Make a pond with blue construction paper and laminate.
* Write a number on the pond.
* Color wood clothes pins green with two black eyes for swamp creatures.
*Have the student place the correct number of swamp creatures on the pond.
Dice counting
* Just roll and count.
* I found these at Staples. They are erasers.
Ice cream cone counting
* Ignore the addition card at the top, and this can also be used for counting.
* Cut and laminate your ice cream cone pieces. We have vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
* The "sprinkles" are colored pom pom balls. I got larger ones, but there are smaller ones.
I'll add to this as I get more ideas. Most of these ideas are from Mailbox magazine.

Great idea! I love this post! Thank you! I can use some of these ideas with my oldest.
ReplyDeleteI used to do some of these kinds of activities with my students!
