Youre' almost 4 years old now. And oh, how wonderful these 4 years of your life have been. I didn't think they would be when, at just a day old, we were given what felt like earth shattering news................
You have Down syndrome.
Such simple words now.
Isn't is funny how those words today are so much a part of our thinking, our family, our life,
Our NORMAL,
but they were so foreign and terrifying on that day.
If I had only known on that day what I know now.
If I had only known how your smile would brighten any day. Your laugh would light up my life. How much you would enjoy life and how much I would enjoy you. You are a joy to parent.
If I had only known how it would feel the first time you said, "I love Mommy" or the pride we felt at your first steps and all the other milestones that we cheered over. You have recently started running and jumping. I love watching you achieve goals.
You have made me a better mother. You have challenged me to to go outside of my comfort zone. You have made me a better person. How does one little soul do that?
There was a time that I was sad that you wouldn't be like me. Don't be like me, precious one. Be yourself.
