I love history. I'm no buff or scholar, but I do love it. Some parts more than others. I squeaked out a low C after my first year in of college taking History of Civilization with Dr. Reece, pretty much the hardest professor. United States History went much better. There's something about learning the history of early civilizations that pales in comparison to the Civil War.
Driving through and imagining the soldiers, hiding behind rocks and trees, shooting, marching. Trying to picture what it was like for the person who lived in that house that sat in the middle of a battlefield. Or how the homeowner, whose house was turned into a hospital, felt.
As far as you can see, it just open field. But when you know what happened there, it is so much more. It is a piece of our country, a part of our story. And as you drive past stone marker after stone marker, marking the place where men were laid to rest, you can't help but feel grateful for this piece of the story. This part that helped make our country what it is. A free country.
We climbed the rocks at Devil's Den.
From what I have read, Devil's Den is known for being the hiding spot for a notorious sharpshooter during the war. Now, it's known for being a pretty impressive compilation of extremely large rocks that are no longer used for sharpshooting, but for climbing and exploring.
And after making this post, I realize that I need more pictures of Kamdyn by herself. She is way too cute not to. Those will be coming soon ; )
