George Washington book-- homeschool activity

Wow, this has been a draft for a long time.  Since January.  I forgot it was sitting there.  In honor of my big girl finishing kindergarten last week, here's a little school post.

The curriculum we use is called A Beka Book.  Madison has a Social Studies book that we get her lessons from.  We got to the one about George Washington, but there was only one page, and I wanted them to learn more than that.  So we spent a week learning about George Washington.  They used their hand print and construction paper to make the Cherry Tree that young George cut down.  We read books about his leadership in the army and time as President.  They colored a picture of a quarter.  We glued all the pages to construction paper and tied them together with yarn, and we had George Washington books.  For some of the pages, I had the kids give me a sentence in their own words that summed up what they had learned.

You like how formal and structured they are in their pajamas?

Austin wanted to jazz it up with a tie.  You can wear a tie with your pajamas, right?
