update on Kamdyn

I wanted to post a quick update for anyone who hadn't seen. Kamdyn is home now and doing well. She had the beginnings of pneumonia in her lungs. They weren't able to get an IV in while she was in the hospital, so they gave her an antibiotic shot. She had one last winter too, and they work much quicker than oral antibiotics. We can already tell a difference.

When Kamdyn's body temperature quickly went from normal to 102.7, it caused her to have seizures, called febrile seizures. The doctor warned us that, in the future, we need to be aggressive with fevers to avoid this happening again. Many children have febrile seizures with a high temperature, and they don't pose any long term problems. Kids usually outgrow these by the age of 4 or 5.

Now, Kamdyn is on an oral antibiotic to knock out the rest of this illness, and she will have a follow up appointment this week. Maybe this means that we're paying our dues now, and we'll have an uneventful winter. I can hope, right?

  1. Oh Mama! The seizures are scary to watch, aren't they? Ellie had her first on 6/5 and we still do not know what caused her fever. I am relieved that Miss Kamdyn is home. I hope that she continues to improve. She is just having such a rough time :( For an uneventful winter!
