Today, one of my children handed me a card that he/she had made for me in Sunday school. It said I love you and you're the best mommy. With the card, a hand made beaded necklace. Just for me. After my little present opening session, I let the kids run around the playground for a bit. But when it was time to go that same child, who had just handed me such a sweet and thoughtful gift, asked for it back when they were mad that we were leaving.
And that, friends, describes the day to day of motherhood. There's good and bad, beautiful and ugly but always worth it. It stretches you, makes you grow, teaches you selflessness, and it is nothing but a blessing.

It is growing this little person in your heart, whether they live one day or you are blessed by the experience of seeing them grow, whether by adoption or you are fortunate enough to give birth, they get all your heart. All of it. And it doesn't matter if you have one child, four, or ten. They get all your heart. Each one equally. And then that child spends the rest of their life trying to stretch their own wings and gain independence. And let's face it, grow away from you. And that's a good thing.
And while that is happening, you cry over that child. You cry for them. You cry with them. And you cry out to God. For wisdom. For patience. For love when unlovely things happen. For forgiveness. For gratefulness that you have been chosen for the honor that it is to be called Mom.

Happy Mother's Day, friends.
